How much money did you loose?

On www.bierverliesmeter.com you can now see how much money Grolsch, Bavaria, Heineken and InBev "stole" from you by making deals about their prices.
I paid 2860 Euro's too much.
That is: 2 widescreen LCD screens or 16 Ipods.

Join in and protest. Don't forget to send the brewers an e-mail on www.bierverliesmeter.com (top of the website).

Queensweekend

This weekend is time for a party! Sunday, Queensnight I'll go to the Westerstraat to check out het Monumentje, Nol and the Blaffende Vis. Monday, Queensday I'm starting off at Soundgarden and will probably and up near The Minds. I'll try and write something about it and maybe I'll write something tomorrow too.. Depending on how I feel.

Bax

Went to Utrecht today, not gonna mention the prices of beers there cuz they are lower then in Amsterdam and have got nothing to do with this website... What I will mention is Cafe Bax on the Ten Kate market. This is a great bar with great service and good (not too expensive) food.
They also got live music and pub quizzes which are very rare in Amsterdam. Bad things? None. Good things? Terrace, service, food, entertainment, Palm, Weihenstephaner, La Chouffe, Zatte and Leeuw (€ 1,90) on tap and Corona, Koninck, Westmalle Tripel, Westmalle Dubbel, Guinness, Zatte, Columbus, Weihenstephaner Dunkel, Weihenstephaner Mald, Biturger Mald and Boon Brewery's Kriek in bottles.... Probably the best place to get nice beers in this area.

Google Earth pubs.kmz file ready soon

Tomorrow, tomorrow...

Tomorrow I've got a day off. Actually I've got Tuesday off as well. And a bonus is that it's gonna be 26 degrees celcius (80 degrees fahrenheit). So it sounds like a nice day to get up early, get fed properly and cycle around town to enjoy the weather and try out some new places I haven't been to yet and see what the prices of beer are (and what else they got). Maybe I'll cycle down to the east of Amsterdam and go by the IJ brewery and have a nice Natte or Zatte on their terrace... I'll see, as long as there's sun and as long as I can sit outside I'm happy. Maybe I'll finally get a sun tan.

Kadinsky vs. Dracula

Went to see the football today Ajax Amsterdam playing Sparta from Rotterdam. Final score was 5-2... Very good match in a very nice little pub near Dam Square in a small alleyway called Kadinsky(where you can also smoke weed, which is a pity cuz I don't like the smell) with nice people and very cold beer They've got Heineken Ice on tap as well as Affligem and regular Heineken. they've got plenty of bottled beers as well. The football was on a big screen which is good. And halfway they had nice music on as well. Just one minor thing... The Heineken is € 2,20. For amounts of different beers Kadinsky is the winner but...
Then we went to Dracula. A Rumanian restaurant on the Hugo de Grootplein. Went there with 2 Rumanian friends. They said most of the food was good. I thought the service was nice and due to a lack of desserts you can go to the Ice Salon next door for beautiful ice cream or nice espresso... Unfortunately they didn't have any Rumanian beers but the Heineken in this place is € 2,00. So the winner is for price of beer is: Restaurant Dracula!!!

Last Night...

Last night I started off in Cafe Kale once again (it's too close to work and too easy to stop off for "a quick one". After to Lesbian Bingo at the Saarein. And finally I went to a pub I hadn't been before... Cafe Mono on the Bilderdijkstraat. Nice little bar, good people, great music!! Heineken €2,00.

I ♥ Geert Wilders

Actually I don't ♥ him but he's got a great idea. His first one cuz the rest of his idea's are crap! Geert Wilders wants Grolsch, Heineken and Bavaria to half the price of lager for the next 3 years because they fucked 2.000.000 beerdrinkers by charging them 200% of the actual price...
I hope the Dutch parliament agrees with him.

Tour de Geuze Cancelled

Unfortunately no Tour de Geuze for me this year. Sarah has been offered a great course in Oxford so we'll be giving Belgium a miss... Fair enough isn't it?

Cheap Beer?

The European Commission has fined Heineken EUR 219 million for prohibited price-fixing agreements with other brewers. The Commission has imposed fines totalling almost EUR 274 million. Grolsch will have to pay EUR 31.65 million and Bavaria EUR 22.85 million. Belgian brewer InBev is being waived a fine of EUR 84 million because the company provided "important information" about the cartel, the Commission says.
One of the Dutch associations involved with café's also got plans to sew these breweries and have already asked the pubs and café's to lower their beer prices immediately :P

De Kolk

We stayed at the Jonghe Dominus yesterday, but I went for a walk around the Nieuwezijds Kolk to see what the deal is with the prices on a little square in the heart of Amsterdam.
De Jonge Dominus has Heineken on tap for €2,00. Its a nice little cafe with 2 floors and a terrace. Something else quite nice is their Wieckse Rosé. Also from tap this is a lager with cherry juice in in (at least that's what it tastes like).
Next to De Jonghe Dominus is a new complex with a big fitnessclub, and a hotel. Below the hotel is a restaurant/bar : Five Bells.... They have Grolsch for €2,00 and it doesn't look like a place you'd hang out for a long time. Akhnaton is a place you can dance (I think). I didn't go in but the guy at the door told me Grolsch is €2.20. In "In de Wildeman" they have 100's of bottled beers and quite a few different ones on tap. Great place if you are a beer lover. Hertog Jan (their main beer) goes for €2,00 too... Mooy (opposite in de Wildeman) has Heineken for €2,00 but no one was inside when I got there.....
Then there are 2 more places where you can get beer. Places where men come together and have sex with each other (so I've heard). The Cuckoosnest and the Web.... I popped in just to ask the leatherguy behind the bar how much beer was and then left.... (Heineken, €2.00)
In the afternoon Sarah went to the Tokyo cafe on the spui and would have had to pay €2,80 for a beer.... Does this mean the Spui is a lot more expensive then the Kolk? We'll see....

New Set of Pubs

Going out this afternoon to the the Nieuwezijds Kolk. It's a little square with a bunch of cafe's on it. Akhnaton, De Jonge Dominus, In De Wildeman are just a couple of them and I'm convinced all the prices over there are different.... We'll see... I'll give you a new update tomorrow. De Nieuwezijds Kolk is probably not the only place I'm going so the update could be quite big.

InBev

InBev, the worlds biggest brewer has decided to raise the price of beer in Belgian supermarkets twice this year. At the same time the price of beer in Belgian bars is gonna stay the same. In the end beer in bars will be cheaper then beer in supermarkets. They're also going to give away free beer to students cuz students (obviously) are the future.... Maybe I should move?!
Why are they doing this? Cuz only 3 out of 10 people go to a bar on a regular basis... Typical...
Ge maakt wat mee in een Jupiler Cafe

Kale, De Buurvrouw & Soundgarden

I went out last night and got totally rat arsed...
First to Cafe Kale (Amstel, €2.00), then De Huiskamer (Grolsch yuck, €1.90) and finally to Soundgarden (Budels, €1.80)... Soundgarden is definately one of my favourite places to go in Amsterdam. Spoke to the owner of Korsakoff, their beer is €2.00 for a bottle of Leeuw

Heineken T-Shirt, Cap and 20€ Free...

Heineken is looking for 500 people for a new commercial shoot..
Do you want to get a Heineken T-Shirt, Cap and 20€ free and do you have nothing to do while you're in Amsterdam on April 24th then you might as well go

This year we're going to visit: Boon, De Cam, De Troch, Timmermans & Hanssens breweries and staying in Beersel where there are another 2! Oud Beersel and de 3 Fonteinen..... I can't wait.... Beer in Amsterdam is expensive...

Last Sunday I wanted to order a beer on Rembrandtsplein in Amsterdam and found out that half a pint of Grolsch (which I don't even like) would cost me €2,80... A beer around the corner from my house only costs €1,60... And seeing that I'm Dutch, I've decided to create a list with beer prices and kinds of beer. Where to and where not to go drink what... If you go somewhere, somewhere what's not on the list, please send me an e-mail with: name of the bar, kind of beer, and the price of half a pint in that particular bar...
Thanks...
